The World to Come

April 14, 2024 | Romans

In the present world there is a tension between the beauty that God created and a world that is running away from God. The apparent worsening chaos of this world can either cause despair or hope. Going back to the story of Creation in Genesis, Christians understand that God created everything good. Then, sin entered the world and the very ground that we walk on was cursed by God. We are also under a curse of death from God. But, Christians have the hope that all of creation will be liberated from decay by God. Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection to new life opens the door to the new creation that we await. In Romans 8:18-21 the Apostle Paul explores this tension and hope. We are to fix our eyes on Jesus. Not only to His past work on the cross, but also to future redemption when God will make all things, including me, beautiful. This is a Christian's hope and confidence in a chaotic world. As Christians we are called to be a people of hope!
