A Wilderness Generation
November 24, 2024 | Bible Engagement ProjectIn the book of Joshua, the generation of Israelites who experienced the miraculous rescue out of slavery by God's hand had died. The younger generation had not witnessed the full extent of God's past miracles. Possibly, even the daily miracles of food and water had become routine and expected to this generation. Moses and his successor Joshua, had to teach the Israelites to meditate on God's Word. The younger generation of Israelites had to learn how to follow God's commands from the past and how to obey His commands in the present. In order to get into the Promised Land, this generation of Israelites needed to trust and obey God even when God's commands did not make sense. Today, we too are called to meditate on God's Word so that we may know Him personally. It isn't enough to simply know about God from others' experiences. God is calling us into a personal relationship with Him so that we obey what He has commanded in the past. We are to know God personally so that we will be attentive to what God is commanding in the present.
