The Danger of Success

Gideon, in the book of Judges, was called by God to save his fellow Israelites from a raiding nation. Unfortunately, as God's people enjoyed the “land of milk and honey” that God provided, they forgot about God. Because of this God withdrew His provision and protection. Eventually, life became so difficult that the people cried out to God, who showed them mercy. Enter Gideon. The first thing Gideon did was to destroy the sinful idols that were being worshipped. Next, he assembled a very small army yet was able to defeat a much larger army. Peace and prosperity returned to the Israelites. Unfortunately, Gideon did not fully praise God for the victory. Like Gideon, we need to acknowledge our sin, remove it from our lives, trust God in our battles, but then give the full credit and glory to God.
