Responding to Tragedy

May 5, 2024 | Nehemiah

”When I heard these words I sat down and wept, and mourned for days; and I continued fasting and praying before the God of Heaven.” (Nehemiah 1:4). Over 2,500 years ago Nehemiah learned about the hardships and struggles of the people in his homeland of Judea. This bad news moved Nehemiah to cry out to God, listen to God, and to follow God's action plan. Centuries later, Christians are called to approach tragedy just like Nehemiah. To cry out to God with broken hearts and to listen to God's plan of action for us. Through His Holy Spirit, God will open doors to us, leading us where He wants us to go. No matter how great or how small the task, we are encouraged to approach it in a way that proclaims the character and the goodness of God. Father, we pray, let us sacrificially be the hands and feet of your Son, Jesus, to others in times of brokeness.
