Sadness and Sanctification

December 31, 2023 | The Blessing

Sadness and grief are emotions felt by everyone. The world tells us that the purpose of life is to be happy. And if we are sad then we are to either detach from it, numb it with distractions, or to put on a smile and cover it up. Unfortunately, we cannot outrun or cover up sorrow, grief, loss, sadness and pain. In Matther 26:36-46 we read about Jesus' cry to His Father the night before His crucifixion. We learn from Him how to:

  1. Own our sadness
  2. Take it to The Father in prayer
  3. To share our pain with close friends and community
Like sin, emotions that are hidden in the dark cannot be healed in God's Light. Jesus prayed “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as You will”.
